Research

Research is foundational to The Luxury Review. The publication approaches luxury as an object of sustained academic enquiry, combining theoretical frameworks with empirical investigation to examine how value, meaning, and legitimacy are constructed within luxury systems.

The Luxury Review’s research capability spans cultural, psychological, and economic dimensions of luxury. It is concerned not only with what luxury is, but how it functions — as a symbolic language, an emotional economy, and a site of capital allocation. This research-led approach underpins all editorial analysis and informs commissioned work, ensuring insight is grounded in rigour.

Areas of Enquiry

The Luxury Review examines how value is constructed and sustained within luxury systems, with particular attention to the emotional and symbolic dimensions of consumption. This includes how desire, intimacy, identity, and cultural signalling shape contemporary luxury experiences.

Research also explores the transformation of luxury under conditions of dematerialisation and digital mediation, including post-ownership and experience-led forms of value where traditional material cues are diminished. Alongside cultural analysis, The Luxury Review investigates the economic life of luxury, including the role of luxury goods as alternative assets, stores of value, and components of long-term investment strategy.

Across all enquiry, the focus remains on cultural legitimacy, narrative, and the mechanisms through which brand value is established and defended.

Research Collaboration

In addition to its independent research agenda, The Luxury Review undertakes commissioned research and collaborative projects with organisations seeking deeper, evidence-led understanding of luxury. Commissioned work may take the form of bespoke white papers, analytical reports, or original research projects designed to interrogate specific questions, markets, or strategic challenges.

All research engagements are grounded in clear methodological scope and intellectual rigour, and are conducted independently of the publication’s editorial output. Organisations interested in research collaboration are invited to enquire.
